Launch of “We Have No Other Homeland: The Biography of the Freedom Fighter Abd al-Jawad Saleh” in Al-Bireh
In a national and cultural evening, the city of Al-Bireh hosted the launch of “We Have No Other Homeland: The Biography of the Freedom Fighter Abd al-Jawad Saleh”, written by historian and researcher Dr. Saleh Abdel Jawad. The event was attended by a number of official and community figures, as well as a large gathering of interested attendees and members of the late Saleh’s family.
The book was published by Vision Center for Political Development in Türkiye. The event was organized by the Cultural Department of Al-Bireh Municipality under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with Vision Center for Political Development, Inash Alusra Association, Yabous for Strategic Studies and Consulting, and Birzeit University. The event was moderated by journalist Murad Al-Sabi’.
In his remarks, Al-Bireh Mayor Munif Treish highlighted the city’s role in preserving its legacy of national struggle and culture. He described the book as a significant addition to Palestinian and Arab literature, noting that it recounts in detail the life of the late Abdel Jawad Saleh and his leadership and activism throughout the various stages in the history of Al-Bireh and Palestine.
For his part, Minister of Culture Imad Hamdan stressed the importance of documenting the lives and struggles of Palestinian national figures as an integral part of preserving national identity and the Palestinian narrative in the face of attempts to erase them, highlighting Abu Saleh’s lasting mark on the history of the Palestinian cause.
In her remarks, Ruba Khalil, President of Inash Alusra Association, highlighted the historical intersection between community work and the national struggle embodied in the life of the late Abdel Jawad Saleh, noting his role in founding one of Palestine’s most prominent associations.
In the same context, Dr. Ahmad Atawneh, Director of Vision Center for Political Development, discussed the intellectual and political dimensions presented in the book and its value as a reference for future generations.
The book’s author, Dr. Saleh Abdel Jawad, discussed the motivations behind writing the biography, as well as the challenges and research efforts involved in documenting Abdel Jawad Saleh’s life with historical accuracy and a deep sense of national commitment. Dr. Raed Bader also presented a critical reading of the late Saleh’s biography, highlighting key turning points in his life and his steadfast national positions. The event also featured a video report offering glimpses into his life.
The audience was then invited to share comments and questions, leading to a rich discussion and personal testimonies from the late Saleh’s longtime companions and admirers, who agreed that the book’s title, “We Have No Other Homeland”, reflects his philosophy and entire life journey.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Saleh Abdel Jawad signed copies of the book for attendees, amid an atmosphere of appreciation and pride in this significant creative and documentary work.
